who are you and how do i contact you ?
you can email me, chaim bianco, at: contact2@splitbrain.com

what is split ?
split is a feature length sci fi crime film by chaim bianco. it is a fast paced, lush nasty profane existentialist ride through an intensely cynical universe -- chock full of juice, color, sound, fury, thuglife, full spectrum prostitution, and relentless wage-slavery -- an urban american fleur du mal, if you will. some might call it a black comedy, some wouldn't. it is a slyly disguised remake of taxi driver, bladerunner, fantasia, blue velvet, brazil and sesame street. it's dostoevsky on DMT.

where can i see it ?
split is in progress and not yet released.

when will it be released ?
eventually. split started as a small self financed trailer, and its picaresque travels through the curved time and space of film financing has seen it grow into a labor-saturated moon-sized magnet for legal services and vincent van gogh analogies. right now, the film has hit a money wall and is on hold until additional investment happens.

what stage is it at now ?
principal photography is done. the actors have been shot. the film has been brought to roughcut. this would be good news if i was a cuts-only type of guy like jon jost, but it turns out that split is a 2 hour long effects shot -- so a mountain of compositing, roto, negscanning, and pure cgi is left to be licked.

who is in it ?
the principal actors are johnny spanish, sean miller, julienne hanzelka kim, debbie rochon, stuart rudin, kevin pinassi, tom mccarthy, lee golden, brody stevens, ralph feliciello, bill rayhill, steve lippe, rodney gray, cameron miller, david leopold, mike raphone, and matt walsh. -- supporting actors seen in the stills are emmi chen, yi guo, lisa choi, daphne morales, leo allen, dean galanis, scott johnston, roni koresh, martin knopfman, yaniv, celeste arnold, karin upchurch, ebony williams, kirk morgan, the 3 jens, chrismandu, laura ann roucco, steve bird, galinkski, pete florax, george bush, saddams beard, and an amish pigs head.

how about the crew.
lots of crew. i will update the site with a list of crew some time in the near future.

if i email you a question will you answer it?
yes.

will you post a trailer or video clips. ?
probably not. trailers and video clips are useful as saliva generators for a general release. until there is a release plan, this site will be pictures and words.

why is the site laid out like this ?
images in the PRODUCT section are frame grabs from the cut. all these images move. some of them are tack-sharp composites pulled from the hd master. others are grainy dv proxies of nonscanned neg. images in the PROCESS section are loose snapshots, production stills, test-comps, and scans of work product -- organized in a clean scrapbook format. in sum they give a fair picture of the scaffolding, as well as celebrate the many people, places, things, and beautiful women who live inside split's history. and once again, thanks goes out to all the photo takers including: josh dorn, dan watchulonis, kate winkler, rita soto, toni farina and david downes.

got any interesting insights on the fundraising process ?
no. but here is an interesting bit on economist party tricks from an upright blog i like:

"Get two people, and give one of them $100. That person then has to offer some of the money to the second person. If the latter accepts the offer, he gets to keep the money, and the first person gets to keep what's left. If, however, he rejects the offer, they have to give all the money back to you and they get nothing. From a purely material point of view, the second person ought to accept an offer of just one cent. After all, if he accepts, he gets one cent. If he rejects it, he gets nothing. However, in practice, the average minimum most people will accept is something between $30 and $40. Anything less than that is deemed insulting, and rather than have, say, $25, they'd rather have nothing and punish the other guy. Human rationality for you."
